KULIM, April 23 (Bernama) -- Twenty- seven former workers from Massive Paper Product Sdn Bhd in Taman Kenangan, Sungai Karangan near here finally received full compensation following the factory's closure more than a year ago.
According to Peninsular Malaysia Labour Department director-general Datuk Sheikh Yahya Sheikh Mohamad yesterday, the Labour Court had approved the full amount of RM136,797.05 applied for by the affected workers through the Kulim Labour Department on Oct 3, 2010.
"The factory ceased operations due to financial difficulties in August 2010 leaving the 27 workers jobless," he told reporters after handing over the compensation cheque at the Department here Sunday.
He added that they received between RM2,000 and RM10,000 each based on their last drawn salary.
Sheikh Yahya also presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Max Fasteners (M) Sdn Bhd, Kulim Industrial Estate for providing a 'Work From Home' programme to 350 of its workers, including disabled persons, since early this year.
